Budget Ideas

  • Oppose cuts to:
    • Medical safety net
    • Family planning programs
    • Funding for gang intervention that addresses the school to prison pipeline
    • Programs for low income elderly and differently abled.
          
  • Increase/add new funding for:
    • Mental health and chemical dependency.
    • Restore the cuts to State Food Assistance for immigrant and refugee families ($10)
    • Restore the cuts to State Food Assistance for immigrant and refugee families ($10)
    • Restore the 15% cut to TANF ($61M)
    • Improve childcare worker pay and training ($12.4M)
    • Increase funding for post secondary education programs that address the needs of learners of color, including College Bound and Needs Grant programs ($250M)
    • Increase investment in the Housing Trust Fund ($100M)

    • Reforming Legal Financial Obligations - not actually an expenditure, but rather a decrease in local income and perhaps some state income. 

  • Assure that McCleary implementation includes funds for programs that address the opportunity gap.
    • Dual language programs ($3-4M)
    • Increase funding for Drop Out Re-engagement ($5M)
    • Increased funding for early childhood programs that are culturally sound, such as ECEAP
